The municipal territory of Campo nell'Elba occupies the south-western part of the island and is characterized by the Monte Capanne massif to the west, by the Campo plain in the centre, open to the sea with the beach of the same name, and from the hilly complex of S. Martino and Monte Tambone to the east.
It is undoubtedly an area of high landscape value. The municipal territory also includes the island of Pianosa and the islet of Scola. The settlements are variously distributed between the coasts and hills, with the exception of Marina di Campo. In the westernmost part of the municipality, the Costa del Sole extends along which we find the most renowned and beautiful places on the island, including Pomonte, Seccheto and Cavoli; while S. Piero and S. Ilario are perched on the hill, on the slopes of Monte Perone. All these settlements, despite being affected by strong tourist pressure, have kept their identities and characteristics intact over the centuries. An exception is the town of Marina di Campo, of recent origin: apart from the 16th century watchtower, the first settlements in this center date back to the 18th century. The reason for such a late development is to be found in the continuous pirate attacks, which forced the local inhabitants to seek safety in the hilly areas behind.
Thanks to the long equipped sandy beach, ideal for families with children , and its numerous pubs, disco bars and nightclubs, which attract hundreds of young people every year, Marina di Campo is the main tourist center of the island.
