Pure magic. This is what you will think and perceive once you arrive here, at the Laghetto delle Conche, in the Rio Marina Mining Park. One of the most fascinating places on the island, unfortunately, or fortunately, not too well known. Born from an old open-air mining site, it is a small lake with intense red water due to the strong presence of iron and hematite in the area. On clear days, when the sky is blue, the colors and reflections of this wonder of nature will be even more vivid, with shades ranging from red to purple and from yellow to orange. All embraced by the greenery of the lush Mediterranean scrub that grows around and which, as if by magic, stops, leaving the lake to be discovered, just as if by magic. The advice is to take a short walk along the entire shore of the body of water and admire every reflection and nuance that is produced with the change in light. Suggestive is an understatement! A total immersion in nature and its colors, in a petrified world. Due to its uniqueness it is almost impossible to resist taking a souvenir photo or selfie. Equally fascinating is the path to get there. A not difficult walk of about two hours inside the mining park, among the ruins of the ancient mine sites of Rio Albano. If you pay attention it is easy to find small fragments of minerals which are rich in the area. To reach the lake, however, it is advisable to book a park guide, as the walls are quite unstable and in some places it is possible to find damp clay into which you risk sinking. But believe me, it will really be worth it!
