Events The bizarre dive of the Argonauts - Portoferraio
A tradition consolidated for more than a decade now that sees a group of fearless "argonauts" dive into the not exactly warm waters of the Medici dock in Portoferraio on 24 December.
It started as a joke and is now a fixed event at Christmas in Elba, a somewhat playful occasion to meet up in the town center and exchange greetings in a completely original way.
What is it about? the key words are courage and a pinch of madness, which doesn't hurt during the Christmas holidays.
On stage are a group of Portoferraians, more and more every year, who perform the feat, on Christmas Eve, of diving from the Linguella tower and swimming across the Medici dock until they reach the Molo Gallo, on the opposite bank.
A bizarre yet fun event, which at each edition gathers a large number of curious and true fans who watch the dive, encouraging the fearless Argonauts between one toast and another. Who win? everyone wins. Everyone is welcomed with a big round of applause and after the usual photos it's off to the regenerating buffet!
