Simone Manca is the new president of the Association of Travel Agencies on the Island of Elba (Confesercenti - Assoviaggi Affiliate). Simone, 39 years old, from Portoferraio, is co-owner of the PrenotaElba and GoElba agencies, both specialized in incoming.
His appointment took place during the last assembly of the association, during which an ambitious work program was established. Among the priority objectives are: the planning of specialist training initiatives for agents and travel agency workers and the creation of strategic proposals for tourism on the island.
"I want to put my commitment at the service of the category for the growth of tourism in this area - declared the new President - aware that the problems and issues to be addressed are multiple and difficult. Our island has entered a not particularly brilliant phase , the regional and national data on tourist presences highlight that we are struggling behind other seaside resorts whose value is absolutely no greater than ours, especially in relation to natural resources. It means that we must improve in various areas, but above all in hospitality and quality of the product offered. The organization of tourism in this case is also fundamental. For this reason, if on the one hand we applaud Gat for having finally started the process of establishing the Tourist Area of the Island of Elba and the related Observatory tourist destination (OTD), on the other hand we cannot help but be concerned about the position recently taken by the Municipalities of Rio and Campo nell'Elba, on the possible "return" to the tourist tax. An eventuality which in our opinion would represent a serious step backwards for the already wavering tourism strategies of this area - .
We hope - concludes Manca - a serious reflection on the part of the Directors on the negative implications that this position could entail, especially in relation to a possible dissolution of the GAT or the disappearance of the landing tax and we announce that we will still be present on the subject with the usual constructive and obviously critical attitude".
The meeting also saw the election of Stefano Martorella of the Ste Tour Operator agency, as Vice President and of Fabio Magi (Bruno Viaggi), Alessandra Galletti (Margherita Viaggi) and Marino Garfagnoli (Viaggi del Genio), as advisors of the Association. While Marco Casaroli (Tesi Viaggi Agency) was appointed member of the association's board of trustees.
